China National Academy of Educational Sciences (CNAES)

China National Academy of Educational Sciences (CNAES) is a comprehensive national-level education research institution affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It was formerly known as the Education Research Division of Central Research Academy, which was founded in 1941. In 1957, the China National Institute of Educational Research was officially established under the authorization of the State Council and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee. The institute was renamed as the National Institute of Education Sciences in 2011. Subsequently, in 2021, the institute merged with the National Education Development Research Center into China National Academy of Educational Sciences. CNAES also hosts the National Office for Education Sciences Planning.

CNAES has 20 research institutes, 12 administrative offices, two affiliated enterprises (Guoyu Education Ltd.)and the Education Science Publishing House (Audio and Video Publishing House). CNAES publishes eight journals and one newspaper, such as the Journal of Educational Research, the Journal of Chinese Special Education and Weekly Digest of Education, etc. CNAES has more than 270 researchers, approximately half of whom are researchers with senior professional titles, with most having doctoral degrees. Enterprise staff: 227; retired staff: 271, including 16 retired cadres. The institution has established a national education science planning and management platform, an education decision-making simulation analysis platform, an education research platform, a postdoctoral research workstation, and a visiting scholar training platform. It has established nearly 20 comprehensive education reform experimental zones and several experimental schools in the eastern, central, and western regions of China and has established exchange and cooperation relationships with dozens of education research institutions in other countries and international organizations. Six national first-level associations, including the China Adult Education Association, the China Tao Xingzhi Research Association, the Confucius Society of China, the Tao Xingzhi Education Foundation, the China Local Education History Research Association, and the Innovation Talents Education Research Association, are affiliated with CNAES.
