November 11, 2023. The 4th Belt and Road Education Dialogue: Focus on Teachers' Professional Development

On November 11, 2023, CNAES held the 4th B&R Education Dialogue: Focus on Teachers' Professional Development in Beijing. Focusing on “priorities of teacher professional development policies” and “integration of industry and education and high-quality teacher teams”, the forum invited education policy makers, theorists from countries along the B&R to introduce the teacher policies and practical cases. They shared experiences in teacher team building, and offered policy suggestions. This collaborative effort significantly contributed to promoting high-quality international cooperation in building the B&R and sharing Chinese wisdom and solutions. More than 120 representatives from experts in the field of teacher development, relevant departments of the MoE, the national education research leaders and the education experimental zones of CNAES attended the offline meeting.

Li Yongzhi, president of CNAES, delivered an opening speech. Pei Boyong, an education project expert at the UNESCO Office in China, and Huang Xiaohua, deputy director of the Teacher Work Department of the MoE, spoke at the conference. Ten experts from China, Singapore, Mongolia, Cambodia, Nepal, Hungary, UK and other countries delivered keynote speeches.

Through the joint efforts of participants in the four sessions, the B&R education dialogue and the B&R education research network have established clear functional positioning and development goals, constructed a relatively complete organizational framework and work system, formed a wide-coverage and stable working partner, and produced a batch of representative and influential academic achievements, gradually developing into an international educational research community. Since the establishment of the B&R education dialogue mechanism, all parties have actively responded to the consensus and closely promote exchanges and cooperation. Important progress has been made in three aspects: strengthening overall planning, deepening project cooperation and implementing mechanism platforms.

Looking back, the “Belt and Road Initiative” has built a stable platform for educational dialogues, and the B&R education dialogue has played a unique role. Looking ahead, CNAES will work with network members to actively promote the construction of both the B&R education dialogue and the B&R education research network. These will play a crucial role in advancing the United Nations’ educational development goals, contributing to improving the education quality in countries along the B&R.
